PHOTO: 1937 BMW R5 SS Rensport

A chance conversation between Trustee Winston Teague and a neighbouring stall-holder at the Beaulieu Autojumble set the ball rolling to enable this gentleman to discover the original owner of his 1937 BMW R5 SS. This is a very rare bike as BMW only produced a very small number of SS Rensport race bikes, a handful of which were imported into England by AFN between May and September 1937.

He provided the frame and engine numbers and with the help of Robert Freeman, an expert on historic BMW motorcycles, it was confirmed that the records held at The Archives proved that his was one of those few imported by AFN. Not only that but he was able to see the details of its sale to its first owner.
